Film Evaluation

Within my film there was many advantages and disadvantages. Some of the advantages are that we managed to plan the film in the short space of time we were given and also we managed to edit the film to the best of our ability. We also kept the gerne of film throughtout but we added in aspects of comedy, because it will therefore be appropriate for a group of younger people because the horror wouldn’t score then too much.

Some of the disadvantages of our film are the setting, the costuming and longer camera shots. The setting needs improving because the genre of the film is a horror but the setting doesn’t justify it because it is really light outside and we’re in a courtyard. To make the setting we could do it when it’s darker, winder and in a grave yard for example. This would improve the film because people would believe that something bad is going to happen because of the atmosphere. Pathetic fallacy would be used because it show the characters feelings and emotions. Costuming would benefit the film because it would allow us to get into character more and it would benefit because we could make it more mysterious. The camera shots need to be improved because we had to cut pieces of the clip of which then made the film shorter and longer camera shot would allow the film to be longer and we could show that there was more going on and we could use slow motion to show more suspense.

Crimson Peak   The scene from ‘Crimson Peak’ shows different areas of the film such as the camera, lighting, mise-en-scene, and sound, but some of these have been used more effectively. The genre of the film is horror and the low-key lighting and how the director uses smoke and mist to add the atmosphere show this. None of the characters know life outside the favela so when Rocket goes to work at the newspaper agency he is becoming more positive because he's achieving his dreams. reflecting on the auteur theory: The power-point presentations allowed us to discuss the auteur theory and how different directors use it. This was beneficial because it allowed us all as a group to develop a deeper understanding of the auteur theory. Most of the groups were paired up with someone who based their presentation on a different director, but myself and Katie both based our presentation on Taratino and we thought that both being paired up and doing the same director was beneficial because we got a deeper understanding of how the auteur theory was used by Taratino and because we both presented our presentations to each other and we focused on different aspects.
